    We respond to applications within 48 hours after receiving your submission.
  4. Will I have opportunities for training and professional development after I am hired?
    Continuous learning is a key component of each team member’s development. We offer a corporate university to increase your skills as well and on the job training.

Veterinarian FAQs

  1. How many board-certified specialists are on staff?
    Currently, VCA employs more than 400 board-certified specialists.
  2. How many hours a week will I be expected to work?
    It’s difficult to give a firm number as the needs are constantly changing within our facilities. However, VCA is firmly committed to a healthy work-life balance and will support our team members in every way possible.
  3. I’ve always had a passion for teaching and mentoring. Is that opportunity available to me at VCA? Yes, VCA encourages education for veterinarians and all hospital roles as a way to stay current within their profession.
  4. Will VCA support my participation in professional conferences? Yes, VCA encourages mentoring and training.  Ask us how you can get more involved in training others at the time of your interview.

Student Externship FAQs

  1. Does VCA pay a stipend for externships?
    No, VCA does not pay a stipend or provide housing in most instances.
  2. I need to complete a rotation in a certain specialty. Can I get a list of all your board-certified specialists and their respective hospitals?
    Yes, email your request to extern@vcahospitals.com and we will send a list of all VCA specialists and their hospital locations.
  3. Will VCA fill out a school evaluation form for me so I can get credit for my externship?
    Yes, your mentor will fill out your evaluation form and send it to your school.
  4. I am interested in the intern program at one of your hospitals. Is an externship a good way to get to know the program?
    Yes, an externship is the best way to check out the intern program. An externship gives you the ability to see if the program is a good fit for you, encourages you to talk with current interns and establish a relationship with the Intern Director.
  5. My school has an approved list of hospitals where I can extern. The VCA hospital I want is not on the list. Will VCA fill out the form my school requires so I can extern for school credit? Yes, just let us know when you submit your externship application that you need VCA to fill out the school form. Don’t worry. We will take care of it. Send all inquiries to extern@vcahospitals.com.
  6. How many externships can I do? You can do as many externships in VCA hospitals as you have allowed blocks. However, you will need to fill out an extern application for each hospital or date requested.
  7. How much hands-on experience will I get during an externship? VCA’s specialty hospitals serve not only their community, but also the referring veterinarians who entrust us with their complex cases. Many of our specialty hospitals also have interns and residents in training. While the scope of hands-on experience for externs will be limited, the learning from these externships is always rich.
  8. I am a foreign student and would like to come to the United States to do an externship at one of your hospitals. Does VCA provide help with housing, transportation or travel documents? You are responsible for all necessary travel documents, transportation, living and housing expenses.

Veterinary Internships FAQs

  1. Does VCA pay their interns?
    Yes, Interns are paid a salary as well as a Continuing Education Allowance and Benefits.  There are numerous other benefits as well.
  2. I would like an internship that includes a certain specialty. Can I get a list of all your board-certified specialists and their respective hospitals?
    Yes, email your request to extern@vcahospitals.com and we will send a list of all VCA specialists and their hospital locations.
  3. Does VCA provide housing?
    A select few hospitals offer housing. To find out their locations, request a list when applying. You can also email the Intern Director and ask for housing recommendations.
  4. I am a foreign student and would like to come to the United States to do an internship at one of your hospitals. Does VCA provide help with housing, transportation or travel documents?
    You are responsible for all necessary travel documents, transportation, living and housing expenses.

Student Technician Externships/Internships FAQs

  1. Does VCA pay a stipend for Technological internships?
    No, VCA does not pay a stipend for Vet Tech internships.
  2. Does VCA provide housing?
    No, VCA does not provide housing. For information on housing options, contact the Hospital Manager at your approved VCA Animal Hospital.
  3. I am a foreign student and would like to come to the United States to do a Technician internship at one of your hospitals. Does VCA provide help with housing, transportation or travel documents?
    You are responsible for all necessary travel documents, transportation, living and housing expenses.
